Aesthetics dermatology is not merely an anti-ageing treatment; it is all about analysing and enhancing the beauty in you. Your face is analysed in terms of shape, proportions, symmetry and contours, as well as for any signs of ageing like fine lines and wrinkles and most importantly- assessed for any skin diseases- or for uneven skin tone or texture. Based on these, a personalised treatment plan suitable for each individual is made that would help to provide a balanced and complete look. There are large number of tools that a dermatologist uses in their aesthetic practice including Botox, Fillers, thread lift, PRP, Skin boosters, Lasers and so on.

Botox is a US FDA approved product for treatment of wrinkles. It is basically a protein extracted and purified from bacteria which helps to relax your muscles. It is given as minute injections into the skin which is almost painless. We target different areas of the face, neck using varied quantities customised for each patient depending on the gender, severity and bulk of muscles to give the desired results. The results would be visible in 5 to 7 days. Botox can fix your fine lines and wrinkles, slim down your face, give a chiselled jawline and much more. It can also be used to control excessive sweating of palms, soles and underarms.

Fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance in your skin. It can volumize, lift and hydrate your skin and the results are instant. There are different fillers available according to the area to be treated and the indication. It can be used to contour your face, fix your sagging skin, deep skin folds or sunken eyes, better define your lips, chin and jawline, treat stubborn scars and wrinkles. It is injected using 1ml pre-filled syringes which also contains an anaesthetic to make it as painless as possible. The results can last for 12 months or even longer. Treatment may take anywhere between 20 to 30 minutes.

Skin boosters contain hyaluronic acid in a higher concentration manufactured using a different technology than fillers. They are given as minute injection superficially on the skin on your face, neck or even hands. It improves skin hydration, firmness and texture and gives your skin a much-needed glow and rejuvenation. It would also reduce acne scars and fine lines.

PRP is considered as a growth factor cocktail and is used for several indications like hair growth, skin rejuvenation, acne scars, periorbital rejuvenation and so on. It’s a versatile tool and as it is obtained from patients own blood, it is totally safe. PRP is injected using tiny needles on the scalp or face after applying a numbing cream. Procedure hardly takes 20 minutes. Repeat sessions will give better results.

Regenerative medicine is now revolutionising the field of aesthetic dermatology. It focuses on tissue regeneration processes that allows us to rejuvenate skin in a natural way.. Exosomes, PRP, PRF, PDRN, Fat grafting, growth factor concentrate are examples. Theses are injected on face or desired areas intradermally or with microneedling.

As a dermatologist, I believe in providing safe and sustainable options to maintain a beautiful skin. The procedures and treatments offered should be evidence based and value based. Do not wait until you have developed those worry lines or sagging skin to consult your dermatologist. It is never too early to start aesthetic treatments.
